As a natural drug carrier with low immunogenicity, albumin is a good candidate for the preparation of easily functionalizable biomaterials.
The ALBUPAD team developed a new innovative albumin-based material produced using a mild, non-denaturing process (no chemical crosslinking agents, no solvents, mild pH, low temperature), to preserve as much as possible the structure of the protein and allow the loading of sensitive molecules.
There are many potential applications for such an albumin-based membrane for human and veterinary applications including Implantable Medical Devices (IMD) and controlled release of drug.
